Virginia Tech gained their seventh commit in the past 5 weeks this evening as three-star ATH/LB Keli Lawson committed to the Hokies

Lawson is the Hokies' 11th current commit and second one that Virginia Tech has gained this week joining three-star QB Tahj Bullock. Additionally, Lawson is the Hokies' third in-state commit this cycle along with three-star WR Jaylen Jones and three-star ATH Jalen Stroman.

Lawson's commitment comes after the Hokies offered him at the beginning of the month and not long after he had told us that Tech was "at the top" of his list. The Sherando HS prospect chose the Hokies over offers from UVA, Liberty, ODU, and Toledo; and is Tech's second commit out of Sherando HS under Justin Fuente along with former LB Dylan Rivers.

Lawson is an intriguing prospect and athlete at anywhere from 6'4'' according to 247 Sports to 6'6'' according to his Twitter page, alos listing an 82'' (6' 10'') wingspan. He seems likely to start linebacker but could also grow into a defensive end. Tech also seems to think that Lawson could fit a hybrid mold of sorts with defensive line coaches Bill Teerlinck and Darryl Tapp having a large role in his recruitment.

His commitment gives the Hokies a second linebacker commit along with Will Johnson, who projects as a whip or a mike. Additionally, Tech is battling N.C. State for four-star LB Jordan Poole with a source telling us Tech is a serious contender for the talented prospect from North Carolina.

We will have more as this story develops.
