Virginia Tech capped off an impressive top 25 recruiting class by landing four commitments on Early Signing Day including one from three-star LB/TE John-Patrick Oates out of Pennsylvania, who flipped his commitment from JMU to the Hokies.
After signing with the Hokies, Oates had this to say about why he chose Virginia Tech.
"Playing football for Coach (James) Franklin has always been a dream of mine and playing for a nationally ranked, ACC team like VT was also. I was happy to initially commit to play at JMU but when I got the call from Coach Franklin's staff, I had to reconsider," Oates said.
He added this on how much of an impact his relationship with head coach James Franklin had on his decision to choose the Hokies.
