Virginia Tech has been looking to add a couple more defensive backs to their 2022 class and landed one of them today via a commitment from three-star DB Mansoor Delane.
Delane chose the Hokies over a host of offers from Maryland, Minnesota, and Illinois; the schools he took official visits to in addition to VT, plus Louisville, Boston College, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Temple, and others. Delane is the first commit from Maryland this cycle and the second DB commit along with three-star safety Malcolm Jones.
Maryland had been considered the clear favorite for weeks until the Hokies, coming off the end of the July dead period, hosted Delane at their July BBQ recruiting event. That visit made a big difference with the Hokies making a massive push launched that day to beat out the Terps to land his commitment.
Defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton also led the charge in Delane's recruitment for the Hokies and deserves lots of credit for Tech beating out the in-state Terps to land the talented DB.
With Delane on board, the defensive back focus shifts to four-star CB Cam Johnson who is one of Tech's top overall remaining targets.
We will have more as this story develops.
