Three-star DB Mansoor Delane, one of Virginia Tech's top remaining defensive targets, has told us that he is currently taking an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech.
Delane is one of Virginia Tech's top defensive back targets and previously took an official visit to Blacksburg in June while also taking ones to Maryland, Minnesota, and Illinois. Delane is visiting Blacksburg today during their annual late July recruiting barbecue which usually sees the Hokies host a lot of commits and top remaining targets for the 2022 class this cycle plus loads of talented 2023 recruits.
This comes after Delane released a top 2 earlier this week of Virginia Tech and Maryland.
He had this to say about why Virginia Tech made his top 2.
"The relationship I have with the entire coaching staff is very strong. The history of Virginia Tech producing defensive backs in the NFL," Delane said.
Delane has told us in the past as well that he has a "great" relationship with defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton who is in contact with him the most out of Blacksburg. He also has a "very close" relationship with Hokies CB Dorian Strong who is from his hometown and was one of his player hosts for his official visits.
Maryland is also a major contender and he had this to say about why Maryland made his top 2.
"The way they have said they will develop me as a player and playing early all while playing in front of friends and family in your hometown," Delane said.
Looking ahead, Delane is set to make his decision a week from today on Sunday, August 1st with his visit to Blacksburg today being the only one that he'll take prior to his decision since his June official visits.
While Maryland has been considered the favorite for a while, the fact that Delane is visiting Blacksburg for his last visit pre-decision and not College Park seems to be a strong message that the Hokies have a great chance to land him.
Keep an eye on Mansoor Delane as Virginia Tech looks to add a couple more defensive backs to their 2022 class.
