Virginia Tech has made a major recruiting splash on the eve of the Fourth of July, landing a commitment from four-star OT Thomas Wilder out of the 757's Green Run HS.
Wilder chose the Hokies over fellow finalists Penn State and Maryland along with offers from Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, Miami, North Carolina, Florida, Texas A&M, South Carolina, West Virginia, Auburn, Duke, and others.
He is the Hokies' third offensive line commit of this recruiting class joining three-star OT Tyrell Simpson and three-star OL Buddy Wegdam. He is also the fourth 757 commit in this class including the third commit from Green Run HS this cycle joining three-star DE Kamren Johnson and three-star DB Zaevion Cleveland.
As of now, Wilder is the first four-star offensive line commitment for the Hokies since landing Layth Ghannam in the 2023 class. Tech's offensive line recruiting has taken a major jump since the arrival of Matt Moore this offseason, with Wilder being the latest example of that. Moore has delivered a much-needed talent infusion to Virginia Tech's offensive line that will help the Hokies for years to come.
The Green Run to VT pipeline continues to grow as well with VT now having landed three Green Run players in each of the past two cycles and seven total over the past three recruiting classes. Tech has had some solid pipelines over the years, but the Green Run to VT pipeline is the strongest pipeline I can remember in my 10+ years writing about Virginia Tech Football.
With Wilder on board, the offensive line focus will shift even more onto the interior with three-star OL Adrian Hamilton set to decide between VT, Michigan State, and UVA on July 5th. Three-star OL Malcolm Gaston also remains a name to watch for the Hokies while four-star OL Darius Gray out of Richmond seems set to wait a while to make a decision which could give VT some new life after seeing him take a full slate of June official visits following his spring official visit to Blacksburg.
