Virginia Tech's strong recruiting week continued today as the Hokies gained a commitment from three-star DB Shawn Asbury II via his Instagram.

Asbury is the Hokies' 12th commit and fourth in-state commitment alongside three-star WR Jaylen Jones, three-star DB Jalen Stroman, and three-star LB/ATH Keli Lawson. Additionally, Asbury is the third commit within the past week along with Lawson and three-star QB Tahj Bullock.
Asbury's commitment is as close as you can get to an instant commitment without it being one after the Hokies offered the in-state defensive back earlier this week. Tech immediately became the favorite at that point with Asbury telling us that the Hokies were "at the top" of his recruitment.
Asbury is an intriguing prospect that Tech is recruiting largely because of versatility in the defensive backfield to play either safety, cornerback, or nickelback.
He also may be underrated because of a knee injury he suffered last spring that caused him to most of this past season. Despite that, Asbury played in the playoffs and still earned All-Area Second Team honors as a returner for the Free-Lance Star (Fredericksburg, VA) while also playing basketball this past winter, proving his health even more.
