Hello Hokies! One of the wilder coaching carousels had another surprise up its sleeve as Hokie legend Michael Vick is set to be named the head coach of Norfolk State. Meanwhile, the Hokies continue to host lots of transfers on campus while finals week means that on-field competition has slowed down some, though that changes tomorrow when Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State face off in Stillwater in a massive top 10 dual meet.

So with that in mind, let’s jump into the Midweek Rundown.

The Midweek Rundown

Michael Vick Becomes a FCS Head Coach: Michael Vick is jumping into the coaching ranks in a big way as he heads home to the 757 to become the head coach at Norfolk State, as reported by David Teel and Michael Sauls of The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press. Former VT OL Dwight Vick has also gone on X and confiredm that he also will be involved with Michael Vick’s operation.

This is obviously a very unique opportunity for Michael Vick to jump into coaching in what may be a favorable situation returning home at the FCS ranks in a MEAC with plenty of room for quick ascendance. If Vick does win this fall, it’s already clear that there will be plenty of national attention and likely plenty of Hokie fan and national media calls for Tech to make a change and bring Vick back to Blacksburg, this time as the head coach. USA Today’s Dan Wolken already has a column on this and Vick hasn’t even officially been announced as the Norfolk State coach yet.

For Brent Pry, talk about a unique type of pressure at a time when your seat is already warming after a disappointing 6-6 regular season record in year 3. This additional pressures may not be fair, but it’s the looming reality that Pry will have to deal with especially if things don’t get off to a good start.

No Contact With Todd Washington: Former Hokie and NFL assistant Todd Washington has been a popular name among Hokie fans for the offensive line coach. However, the former assistant OL coach for the Ravens and Jaguars has not been contacted per a source. At this point, I’d be very, very surprised if Washington was the next OL coach. I also would have put the odds of that being quite low at the beginning of this search as well.

Jordan Scruggs Sets VT Visit: South Alabama CB Jordan Scruggs posted on X earlier this week that he will be visiting Virginia Tech this Thursday. Scruggs is being pursued primarily to fill the nickel role while also having the chance to compete for playing time at cornerback. You can read more about Scruggs ahead of his upcoming VT visit here.

Scooter Jackson Recaps VT Visit: Utah Tech CB Scooter Jackson was impressed by the Hokies on his visit to Blacksburg earlier this week. He still has a couple more trips to Arizona and UCLA coming up this week. You can read more about Jackson’s visit to VT here.

New Offer Sets VT Visit: New Mexico All-Mountain West Honorable Mention S Christian Ellis, a Jacksonville native, tells me that he will be Virginia Tech on Thursday after receiving an offer Tuesday. You can check out more on Ellis and his reaction to receiving a VT offer here.

WBB Last Team in NCAA Tournament Per ESPN: ESPN’s Charlie Creme released his latest Bracketology on Tuesday with Virginia Tech remaining as the ‘Last Team In’ following their dominant 73-34 victory over Radford. Tech only has Campbell left on their non-conference slate before resuming ACC play in the new year.

VT-Oklahoma State Looms: One of the most highly-anticipated dual meets of the year is less than 48 hours away with Virginia Tech making the trip to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State in a top 10 matchup. This dual meet is projected to feature SEVEN matchups between wrestlers ranked in the top 15 including two ranked in the top 5. Those 2 are at 125 (#4 Eddie Ventresca vs #3 Troy Spratley) and 174 (#4 Lennox Wolak vs #3 Dean Hamiti) in what has all the makings of a very tight and entertaining battle Thursday night.
