Trevon Hill Will Have Offseason Surgery, Miss Spring Practice

Defensive end depth was a concern entering this fall, but Trevor Hill stepped up and created a three-man rotationg at DE with starters Ken Ekanem and Vinny Mihota while being the next guy up when Ekanem had to miss the Miami game. In that Miami game, Hill showed tons of promise with 1.5 sacks while showing tons of promise throughout the year with 33 5 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks so far this season. Hill is expected to be the starting DE opposite of Mihota next season, but Virginia Tech revealed some unfortunate regarding the status of Hill for this spring. https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/809129677306601477 Bud Foster told reporters that Trevon Hill will have offseason surgery and miss spring practice. This is not the first time Hill has had an injury issue with a torn ACL late in his senior season of high school forcing him to miss the 2015 season and leading to a red shirt that year. Having Hill be out for the spring is definitely less than ideal but if he is able to hit the ground running and not regress due to missing time from this surgery, the Hokies should be fine. Hill missing spring practice will also give other young guys like Houshun Gaines and Jimmie Taylor chances to get more much-needed reps that could prove very beneficial not only in improving DE depth but also in case injuries befall Hill or Mihota. The injury may also force the Hokies to consider whether to move Darius Fullwood back to DE for the spring though that may change if the Hokies bring in a large haul of defensive ends this recruiting class. At this point, there is no indication that this injury will prevent Hill from playing in the Belk Bowl which is a good sign that the injury isn't too serious but given that he will have offseason surgery, his status for the bowl game definitely,is a little uncertain. We wish for a speedy and full recovery for Trevon Hill from this injury. Stay up with The Tech Lunch Pail for the latest on the Hokies via Facebook and Twitter plus subscribe to our email updates.
