Right now, the Virginia Tech Hokies are in hot pursuit of borderline five-star guard MJ Walker with VT being seen as the favorite to get his commitment. If they did, there is no doubt that Virginia Tech will have put together their best recruiting class in program history but it will also take some work to get him on scholarship if they want to keep all other players that are currently on the team.
However, while it already appears that it would be tricky for VT to get him on scholarship (though we've heard they have a plan), Walker isn't the only player the Hokies have interest in.
Jon Rothstein of CBS and FanRag Sports is reporting that UCONN transfer and former four-star recruit Juwan Durham will take a visit to Virginia Tech at the end of May. The 6'9'' Durham averaged 1.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks in 8.3 minutes per game for UCONN this past season and would have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out a year per NCAA transfer rules.
So far, Durham has already taken a visit to Notre Dame while Rothstein also is reporting that Duke is showing a lot of interest, something that seems to be fallout from having a fairly big exodus for the NBA Draft along with seeing five-star recruit Kevin Knox choose Kentucky over Duke and others.
However, it's interesting to see the Hokies involved here especially when it's unclear how they would get the scholarship necessary to brining him in if they also get MJ Walker. One of the first possibilities would be trying to see which Hokies could play multiple sports, allowing VT to move some scholarships around with Devin Wilson possibly being able to slide back into a football scholarship and MJ Walker previously being a highly-touted football recruit before focusing only on basketball. At this point, we are hearing that Ohio State is taking the dual-sport athlete approach for Walker
but that Virginia Tech is not, but that could change if VT has the chance to add both Walker and Durham.
What is clear is that there is mutual interest between the Hokies and Durham as Buzz Williams is showing that he and Virginia Tech are a force to be reckoned with in pursuit of high school recruits or transfers that they want.
