The redshirt junior ranks as one of the best defenders on the Hokies as he sits second on the team with 4.5 tackles for loss and third with 2.5 sacks.
In last week’s 28-7 defeat to Pittsburgh, Barno led all Hokies with seven solo tackles while finishing second with nine total tackles. He also recorded three QB hurries as he made life uncomfortable for Kenny Pickett.
After playing in only three games during his first season, Barno made a significant leap in his performance in 2020 with 16.5 tackles for loss including six sacks. His playmaking on the field was good enough to be selected as an All-ACC Honorable Mention.
Barno recently wore the No. 25 jersey against Boston College on Oct. 17, 2020. The Blythewood, S.C. had a solid outing with two tackles for loss and 0.5 sack in what was a 40-14 result going in the favor of the Hokies.
With Barno being named to the No. 25 jersey, he becomes the fourth defensive player to wear #25 this season; joining defensive backs Jermaine Waller and Chamarri Conner, and linebacker Dean Ferguson.
