Many wondered if Virginia Tech landing talented CB D.J. Harvey was a sign that the Hokies were prepared to successfully spot recruit in California on a regular basis. Since then, the Hokies have continued to pursue multiple talented California prospects including 2022 four-star DB Kamari Ramsey.
The good news for the Hokies is that they've left a strong impression so far.
Ramsey told us that Virginia Tech is among six teams currently standing out for him along with Ohio State, USC, Washington, Arizona State, and Colorado. He had this to say about why the Hokies are currently standing out for him.
"They have a great program along with a good education and my godbrother (D.J. Harvey) is committed there so it will be a dream come true to play with him on that level," Ramsey said.
That bond between Ramsey and Harvey is quite strong with the potential of playing together in college having some influence on his interest in the Hokies.
"We are very close and it’s a big influence because we dreamed of playing with each other in college," Ramsey said.
CBs coach Ryan Smith is currently leading the charge for VT with Kamari Ramsey telling us that they are "cool" with each other and "communicate well." Nearby USC is also making a big push for Ramsey unsurprisingly given that he is one of Southern California's best 2022 prospects though things could change next month when schools are allowed to initiate contact with 2022 recruits for the first time.
There's no doubt that Ramsey is a very talented prospects from his strong offer list to his impressive ratings from Rivals and 247 Sports. His stats back that interest up as the talented safety told us that he had 80 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 15 pass breakups last season, impressive numbers for someone in his sophomore HS season.
Looking ahead, Ramsey told us that he doesn't have a timeline at this point as he is taking a "very slow and patient" approach which makes sense given the current recruiting climate and that he has well over a year till the Class of 2022's Early Signing Day.
However, when Kamari Ramsey does start to focus in on a more select group of schools, early indicators suggest that the Hokies will be right in the mix.
