After defeating Pittsburgh 28-0 for their second-straight shutout, Virginia Tech rose in the AP Poll while also jumping into the Coaches Poll as well.

The Hokies rose 2 spots in the AP Poll from 25th to 23rd while also jumping into the Coaches Poll at #23. Virginia Tech is one of two ACC teams that are ranked in both along with Clemson while Virginia and Wake Forest are among the teams receiving votes.
The biggest question that remains is whether the Hokies will jump into the CFB Playoff top 25 this week especially with SMU being the lone ranked team to lose, having fallen to a Navy team that could also jump in.
Regardless, what seems almost certain at this point is the winner of the Commonwealth Cup/Coastal Championship should jump in the playoff rankings for good after their victory while also likely locking up a spot in the Orange Bowl as well.
The fact that Virginia Tech is in this position after their first four games just shows how far this team has come from disaster to having a legitimate chance to play for an ACC Championship and play in a New Year's Six bowl.
