With the VHSL postponing high school football to the spring, multiple in-state recruits in the 2021 class are choosing to enroll early instead of playing a spring HS season including three-star WR and Virginia Tech commit Jaylen Jones.

With his decision, Jones is now the fourth 2021 commit to have his intentions to enroll early be public along with 3* CB Nykelius Johnson, 3* DB Shawn Asbury II, and 3* OL Danijel Miletic.

Of course, they may not be the only four as some more commits may choose to enroll early and get spring practice reps at Virginia Tech rather than play a senior HS football season that could eliminate opportunities to earn a chance to play early simply out of the need for rest after a spring season.

Jones profiles as a potential early contributor based on his impressive high school tape and productivity as he had 76 receptions for 1,369 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns last season. While his competition level may not be the best, his talent is undeniable and if he had a fall season, it wouldn't have been surprising if he became a four-star recruit (and he maybe should be already).

Jaylen Jones may not be playing next spring on a HS football field, but don't be surprised to hear a lot about him during Virginia Tech's 2021 spring practice.
