Virginia Tech Commits, Recruits React to Justin Hamilton's Promotion to Defensive Coordinator

VT v UNC 2019 43 1

Virginia Tech made some major headlines today as they announced that safeties coach Justin Hamilton has been promoted to defensive coordinator, replacing the retiring Bud Foster after the 2019 season.

Not only has their been plenty of interest from fans and alums, but also recruits and current Tech commits.

2020 three-star safety commit Lakeem Rudolph was happy to see Justin Hamilton get the job and had high praise for his coaching ability.

"I’m glad. He sees the defense like no other. I am truly happy for him," Rudolph said.

2021 three-star safety commit Jalen Hoyle was also very excited to hear that Justin Hamilton would be the Hokies' next defensive coordinator in part because of the strong relationship he has with him.

"I like it a lot. It’s an easy transition for me because myself and Coach Hamilton already have a good relationship so I’m happy he’s the new defensive coordinator," Hoyle said.

Three-star defensive end target Robert Wooten had told us previously he was hoping Barry Odom (who reportedly is the frontrunner at Memphis according to Sports Illustrated). However, Wooten said that the Hokies' promotion of Hamilton doesn't affect his view of Tech and that he still plans to visit the Hokies this weekend.

Wooten had previously told us that he was down to VT and SMU with the Hokies continuing to look like the favorites.
