Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente announced today that former starting defensive end Emmanuel Belmar has stepped away from football due to medical reasons.

This decision comes after injuries derailed Belmar's 2020 season and while he tried to see if he could make a return to the football field, he was unfortunately not able to get to a health spot to be able to responsibly do so.

Belmar finished his career playing in 40 games including 29 starts with 81 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, 21 QB hurries, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery to seal a victory in overtime against Virginia in 2018.

We will have more as this story develops.
