Jones joined Virginia Tech’s staff in 2022 as an assistant director of player personnel before rising to a Director of Player Personnel role in 2023. He took on a greater leadership role in player personnel this past year after Mike Villagrana had to step away due to some family medical issues.
Jones played an important role in the recruiting success that the Hokies have had during Brent Pry’s tenure in helping oversee the player personnel side of things.
With Jones’ departure, Brent Pry now has a lot of work to do to rebuild the player personnel department given the departures of Villagrana and Jones over the past year. It seems safe to expect that whoever heads up this department going forward likely is an external hire.
