As Brent Pry has reflected on why Virginia Tech missed expectations last season, he has often talked about how the Hokies' physical and mental toughness was not where it needed to be.
That reflection led to a change in the strength & conditioning program with Dwight Galt IV being let go and Jarrett Ferguson being promoted to replace Galt. As Pry shared back in June, he shared me with me how strongly he felt that Ferguson was the right man to fix the issues within the S&C program.
"When I looked at our weaknesses and where's the first place that you fix those things, it's in the offseason program, it's in the weight room, it's in the conditioning area. And then you look at what Jarrett's about and what his strengths are, and that's exactly what we needed more of. We went through a process and interviewed three or four guys. But I got to the point I was excited about him leading our department there," Pry said.
So has Ferguson delivered what Pry was hoping for with the S&C program?
“Yeah, I couldn't be more pleased. The areas where we needed to grow in our off-season program, he's addressed each one. It's who he is. It's who he was as a player. He's done a tremendous job, he and his staff," Pry said.
