After landing their clear top target last cycle in Jeff Overton Jr, the 2026 cycle doesn’t necessarily have a clear top target among the running backs whom the Hokies are in contention for. Meanwhile, the 2027 running back board is still in the early stages of forming.
So with that in mind, let’s dive into the running back targets to watch.
2026: A Few Different Names to Watch
Unlike last cycle, there isn’t a clear #1 guy that is realistically in play for the Hokies as was the case with four-star Jeff Overton Jr.
One of the best running backs in this class is an in-state standout in four-star Savion Hiter, but the Hokies don’t appear in contention whatsoever with Hiter having official visits scheduled for Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Tennessee. Crazier things have happened but any hopes of landing Hiter seemed to have disappeared a while ago.
