With college football season less than two weeks away from starting for Virginia Tech (and days away for a few teams), teams across the country are starting to name their captains for the season. That includes the Hokies who named seven captains yesterday.

The seven players chosen to be captains are QB Kyron Drones, WR Da'Quan Felton, OL Kaden Moore, DE Cole Nelson, LB Sam Brumfield, CB Dorian Strong, and P Peter Moore. Of last year's seven captains, only Kaden Moore and Peter Moore are returning as captains once again while TE Nick Gallo and DT Josh Fuga are back but not as captains, and the other three captains either ran out of eligibility or moved on (Norell Pollard, Nasir Peoples, Grant Wells).
Given that he just transferred in this offseason, Sam Brumfield earning one of the captain's spots from his teammates is quite the honor. It's also a great sign of the respect he's earned and the leadership that he's shown which can translate to what he does on the field as the quarterback of the defense at the Mike linebacker spot.
It's also interesting to see that despite all the high-profile transfers that the Hokies have brought in since Brent Pry's arrival, four of the seven captains are guys who were at VT prior to Pry. While some may have wanted a massive roster overhaul after the change from Justin Fuente to Pry, it's clear that Pry keeping much of his early roster in tact and developing them as players and leaders seems to be paying off for the Hokies.
