Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Notes 1/16/23

Keylen Adams 3 June 2022 VT Visit

The 2024 recruiting cycle is starting to heat up even as the transfer portal remains in full swing for the upcoming season. With that said, here are the latest Hokies' recruiting notes.

4* WR Keylen Adams

Four-star WR Keylen Adams out of Green Run HS in Virginia Beach is one of Virginia Tech's top overall targets for the 2024 cycle with the Hokies making his top 12 recently.

Now, he has three visits happening this month with a trip to Virginia Tech wrapping his January schedule up on the 28th for an elite Junior Day. Additionally, Adams just took a visit to Penn State this past weekend and will be visiting Miami this upcoming weekend. He also told us that he is hoping to visit Florida State, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Duke in the upcoming months.

Landing a visit from Adams this month is definitely a good start for the Hokies as his recruitment begins to pick up the pace with this being a great chance to set the tone and put themselves in a great spot to at least get an official visit. There's no doubt that Adams would be an instant impact player and someone whose commitment would send a massive message across the Commonwealth and the recruiting landscape that Tech is back as a force in their home state.

4* TE Dylan Mesman

Four-star TE Dylan Mesman out of Saline HS in Michigan (the same HS as former VT QB Josh Jackson) released his top 10 with the Hokies making the cut for him.

He had this to say about why Tech made his top 10.

"They’ve been recruiting me a lot recently and really been treating me like a priority. I really appreciate that," Mesman said.

The Hokies were joined by Michigan State, Kentucky, Auburn, Louisville, Duke, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Cincinnati, and Minnesota in Mesman's top 10. Michigan State looks like an early favorite given their in-state status along with the fact that the Spartans just hosted Mesman this past weekend.

This is a spot where Tyler Bowen is leaning on those Big 10 ties to open some doors elsewhere for TE targets. Right now, it doesn't seem likely that they land Mesman though if he goes to say Michigan State or Kentucky, that could take out some of their competition for one of their other top TE targets, 3* Gavin Grover out of Ohio.

4* OT Fletcher Westphal

Four-star OT Fletcher Westphal won't be hitting the visit trail this month as he'll be at home helping his mom recover from a recent surgery. However, that hasn't stopped him from looking ahead towards visits this spring having this to say which asked about the schools he is looking to visit soon.

"Hopefully I’ll visit all of my top 10 this spring. VT will definitely be one with their close proximity," Westphal said. He also noted Washington as the one team that didn't make his top 10 that he would like to finish.

Unsurprisingly, Westphal remains one of Virginia Tech's top overall 2024 targets with Brent Pry taking a large role in recruiting Westphal in addition to OL coach Joe Rudolph and his area recruiter Shawn Quinn.

Like Adams and 4* LB Kristopher Jones, landing Westphal would send a massive statement across the national recruiting landscape that the Hokies are back to being a force for the best recruits in VA. Also like Adams and Jones, Tech is in a good position currently for Westphal, but they have plenty of work ahead of them to beat out some intense competition for them.
