Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Notes 5/10/22

Dylan Wittke VT Spring Game 2022

Things are continuing to heat up on the recruiting trail for Virginia Tech as the Hokies have already gained three commitments this month and seem to have more on the way. So with that said, here are the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes.

3* QB Dylan Wittke

Three-star QB Dylan Wittke out of Georgia powerhouse Buford HS is set to mkae his decision in just over a day.

Virginia Tech offered Wittke last month and hosted him on their Spring Game weekend with Tech quickly gaining lots of momentum from that week. Since then, the Hokies have appeared to have all the momentum in his recruitment with Tech the favorite on-paper going into his decision.

Wittke is a very intriguing QB prospect who will get to be the full-time starter at Buford this fall after Wittke split time with 2022 three-star QB Ashton Daniels who signed with Stanford this past recruiting cycle. Given that, Wittke could be a guy who takes off this fall in terms of what recruiting evaluators think of him given that he'll be the full-time QB.

With that in mind, landing him now could be big for the Hokies given how Wittke has clearly emerged as one of their top QB targets.

Could Virginia Tech make it 4 commits in 11 days to start the month of May? Right now, all signs seem to point towards that being the case for the Hokies.

OT/DT Carsten Casady

Virginia Tech may have three offensive line commits already, but the Hokies seem likely to add 1-2 more offensive linemen to this class with the Hokies showing interest in versatile OT/DT recruit Carsten Casady out of Rolesville, NC.

Casady recently spoke with Hokies OL coach Joe Rudolph and had this to say about his conversation with him.

"It was actually really good. He was telling me about all the successful offensive linemen he had at Wisconsin that didn’t start out on the OL. He also said he would come by to a practice next week," Casady said. "He said I had athleticism and size and frame to be an elite offensive lineman."

While most of his current offers are for him as a DT, he's open to playing either offensive tackle or defensive tackle at the next level. He's also been receiving some Power 5 interest as an offensive line prospect recently with Minnesota, Duke, and N.C. State among those interested in him. Casady has a solid offer that includes Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Navy, Akron, Richmond, William & Mary, and Marist.

Keep an eye on Casady as a potential rising name who the Hokies are actively evaluating along with a few other Power 5 programs.

2024 4* LB Kristopher Jones

2024 four-star LB Kristopher Jones out of Stafford, VA is poised to be one of the top in-state recruits in the 2024 class with the Hokies making him a priority as you would expect for an in-state standout.

Jones told us that Virginia Tech is among the schools that he "hears from the most right now" along with Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, UVA, Arizona State, and Maryland. Defensive assistant Shawn Quinn, who's playing a large role in VT's recruiting of Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg area, has been leading the charge in Tech's recruitment of Jones so far.

Jones told us that the Hokies' coaching staff has always made their heavy interest clear whenever they get the chance within the NCAA rules for contact with 2024 recruits from Shawn Quinn's trips to Mountain View HS to his interactions with the staff on visits to Blacksburg.

That includes a trip to Blacksburg just last month with Jones adding this on how it went.

"It was good. I got to meet some of the new staff and see the facilities," Jones said.

Kristopher Jones is poised to be one of the premier 2024 recruits in the Commonwealth of Virginia with the Hokies actively putting in the work needed to position themselves well in his recruitment.
