Here are the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes after the Hokies gained a commitment from three-star DB Shawn Asbury II over the weekend.
3* WR O'Mega Blake
Three-star WR O'Mega Blake is down to 3 schools ahead of his decision today with the Hokies battling South Carolina and Louisville for his commitment.

South Carolina is largely considered the overwhelming favorite for Blake with the 247 Sports' Crystal Ball heavily favoring the Gamecocks. VT and Louisville can't necessarily be ruled out for Blake, but the offer from South Carolina not too long ago appeared to be a game changer for the Rock Hill, SC wide receiver.
The Hokies already have one receiver committed in Jaylen Jones, but are looking to likely add at least two more with South Carolinian Ahmari Huggins-Bruce among the top targets.
If the Hokies were to land Huggins-Bruce, beating out Louisville and others to do so, he would give the Hokies a wide receiver commit from South Carolina for the third-straight recruiting cycle, showing how VT has heavily looked to the Palmetto State for talented wide receivers in recent years.
3* DE Cole Nelson
After planning to make his commitment by the end of this month, three-star DE Cole Nelson announced that he has decided to delay his decision to July.

Going into this decision, Virginia Tech was considered the overwhelming favorite to land Nelson according to a source with his top 9 unsurprisingly including the Hokies. At this point, most signs still point towards the Hokies being the frontrunners though this delay may give some other teams opportunities to try to make a big move.
Tech's defensive line class seems to be coming together fairly well to this point with three-star DT Tyas Martin and three-star DE Mattheus Carroll committed. Additionally, the Hokies are in very good shape for three-star DT Earl Miller while also being a top contender for four-star 757 DE Naquan Brown, who announces on July 1st, and three-star DE Robert Jackson, who included Tech in his top 10.
3* OT Silas Barr
Virginia Tech continues to evaluate offensive line prospects all over the country including in the state of Texas where the Hokies are showing interest in three-star OT Silas Barr.
Barr told us that he has been receiving interest from VT recently and had a phone conversation with offensive line coach Vance Vice recently. Barr told us that his conversation with Vice went "very well" as they discussed things both on and off the football field.
While it's unclear about how close VT is to offering Barr, it's clear that the Hokies are at least heavily evaluating the talented Texan.
Barr is an intriuging prospect who could end up on either side of the trenches at the collegiate level with 247 Sports and Rivals both evaluating him as a defensive lineman (though 247 seems to recognize his potential at offensive tackle). However, it seems pretty clear that VT has their eyes on him as an offensive tackle should they choose to offer him.
As Tech looks to likely sign 4-5 offensive linemen this cycle, keep an eye on Barr as a potential offer and target down the road.
