Check out the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes including an update on a major grad transfer target plus updates on two top remaining 2021 running back targets for the Hokies.

Northern Iowa CB Xavior Williams

As we reported this past weekend, Virginia Tech has been in contact with Northern Iowa grad transfer CB and FCS Preseason All-American Xavior Williams.

After having conversations with Beau Davidsion on Friday and Saturday, Williams told us that he had another conversation with Davidson and Tech on Sunday that also included defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton and CBs coach Ryan Smith.

Williams told us that the Sunday conversation he had with the Hokies was "good" and that he would have the chance to "compete for a spot." Additionally, while the Hokies haven't been able to formally extend a scholarship to him there while his transcripts are processed, he did tell us that VT said the "scholarship is there."

Landing Williams would be another major grad transfer addition to go with Changa Hodge and potentially give the Hokies another starting cornerback. While it's definitely not a guarantee that Williams would beat out Armani Chatman, it definitely would be an intense battle for the #2 job.

3* RB Kenji Christian

Three-star RB Kenji Christian is close to ready to make his collegiate commitment with the talented Alabama tailback setting a decision date today.

Ahead of his August 24th decision, all signs point to this being a Virginia Tech vs. Ole Miss battle with his comments to Rivals backing that statement up.

However, what we are hearing is good news for Tech fans as sourcing around the Tech program points to the Hokies being confident that they will land the talented 6'2'' running back two weeks from today.

If they do, it would almost certainly wrap up their running back class giving them a good speed-power combination with Christian as the power back and Malachi Thomas as the speed back. Additionally, Tech also has the versatile Chance Black who could be used in a variety of ways including as a wide receiver.

Tech's running back class may be locked in within the next two weeks with the Hokies in great position currently to land Kenji Christian.

4* RB Audric Estime

Audric Estime has been Virginia Tech's other top power running back target and he may also be closing on a decision after releasing his top 6.

The Hokies were joined by in-state Rutgers, Michigan State, Arizona State, Texas A&M, and Nebraska for the talented New Jersey product.

Estime's chances of Tech may have an expiration date soon though as the Hokies' numbers are extremely tight and landing one more running back would likely make it hard to fit Estime in this class, especially with Christian being a similar style player.

Michigan State has emerged as the favorite according to the 247 Sports' Crystal Ball while Rutgers has had lots of in-state recruiting success since the return of Greg Schiano and should likely be considered a serious contender as well.

Estime's situation is worth monitoring, but things are trending away from the Hokies at this point.
