For any young quarterback, Peyton Manning is likely one of the first any young QB wants to emulate. For 2021 QB Colten Gauthier, he has a head coach who knows plenty about what it takes to be as good as Manning in his longtime Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday. That experience has proven to be valuable in teaching Gauthier what it takes both on and off the field to be a great quarterback and leader. "He is such a great coach and person. With him playing with Peyton Manning for 16+ years, he has taught me how to hold my self as a top QB, being a leader on and off the field, what great looks like in the film room, how to attack the grind in the offseason, and how to take care of my body and my mind. He has really prepared me for playing in college," Gauthier said. Gauthier is already showing that he has a future in major college football after throwing for over 2,200 yards this past season and earning First Team All-Region honors as a sophomore. Unsurprisingly, Gauthier's success has led to some major offers including one from Virginia Tech. The Hokies became the second Power 5 school to offer Gauthier last week when Brad Cornelsen watched Gauthier throw and offered him after. Gauthier said he was "super excited" to receive an offer from the Hokies and though he isn't sure how it may impact his recruitment as a whole, he definitely intends to consider Virginia Tech going forward. "I don’t know if it has impacted my recruitment yet. But the offer has definitely made me consider VT moving forward. I am really looking forward to the visit this weekend," Gauthier said. As mentioned above, Colten Gauthier also plans to visit Virginia Tech this weekend, another great sign that there is significant mutual interest between the Hokies and Gauthier. When he arrives in Blacksburg, Gauthier told us that he is most looking forward to meeting the full coaching staff, and getting to see the campus and athletic facilities. Though Gauthier only has two Power 5 offers and five overall currently, he also seems poised to add more offers in the coming weeks. Georgia Tech, in particular, was one school Gauthier mentioned that may offer soon with the Yellow Jackets set to see him throw either this week or next after Gauthier visited Georgia Tech this past weekend. As the 2021 class takes shape, Colten Gauthier is poised to be a top Virginia Tech target and given the fact that he's already producing at a high level while still having two years to be mentored by Jeff Saturday, the sky seems to be the limit for what Gauthier could develop into.
