We've discussed recently on our site about Virginia Tech's recruiting at tight end for the 2023 and 2024 cycles. Tech seems likely to only bring in 1 tight end this cycle and it could be someone who the Hokies haven't offered yet.
If that is the case, then ATH Ja'Ricous Hairston out of Bassett, VA is certainly a name to watch.
Hairston camped for the Hokies on back-to-back weekends with Tech currently evaluating him at tight end. That shouldn't come as a surprise given his size at 6'4'' and 230 pounds that fits the mold of a tight end better than any other offensive position.
He had this to say about how his first camp visit to Blacksburg went.
"It was great as I was shown much love," Hairston said.
Hairston added that he feels an offer could be coming in "the next couple of months" with his current 40 time of around 4.9 being an area of focus for improvement for Hairston.
Navy is among Hairston's offers currently while Tech isn't the only notable school showing interest in him that hasn't offered yet with UVA, Louisville, Duke, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, JMU, Old Dominion, Liberty, Richmond, William & Mary, and Elon all showing interest as well.
In the meantime, Tech continues to be in contact often with Hairston with OC/TEs coach Tyler Bowen helping to lead the charge. Hairston had this to say about his relationship with Bowen.
"It’s a good one. He tells me where I need to improve and how," Hairston said.
He also added this on his relationship with OL coach/Run Game coordinator Joe Rudolph who has taken on plenty of the area recruiting responsibility in central and southern Virginia.
"It's wonderful. He also gives me a lot of tips and tricks," Hairston said.
As Virginia Tech evaluates their tight end options, keep an eye on in-state ATH Ja'Ricous Hairston.
