Virginia Tech fans sat back and relaxed this weekend as chaos hit college football with four top 10 teams falling victim to upsets. Because of that, the Hokies benefited in the polls with gains made among the media and the coaches. Virginia Tech jumped from 15th to 14th in the AP Poll, and 17th to 14th in the Coaches Poll. The Hokies have steadily risen in the polls since their loss to Clemson and should rise in the polls again next week if they beat North Carolina as expected. Virginia Tech moved past Washington State and Auburn in the AP Poll while Notre Dame moved ahead of them despite both teams being on bye. Virginia Tech's resume improved this week as West Virginia returned to the top 25 at #23 following a win over Texas Tech. The Hokies will need WVU to continue to rise in the coming weeks as WVU remains VT's signature win this season. Virginia Tech is one of four ACC teams in the AP top 25 this week. Clemson leads the way at #7 followed by Miami at eighth and NC State at 16th. Those four may be joined by Virginia soon as the Cavaliers received 10 points and are technically 29th in the AP Poll. Georgia Tech and Florida State also received a vote this week. For the Hokies to have any chance at the playoff, they must win out. The good news is that if they do so, they can build a solid resume, especially with a big game against Miami looming in less than three weeks that will likely be a de facto ACC Coastal championship game.
