Virginia Tech left-handed pitcher Chase Swift announced Monday on his X account that he is entering the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
Swift was one of the more effective arms in the Hokies' bullpen this past season. The southpaw appeared in 15 games during the 2025-26 campaign, posting a 1-1 record with a 3.63 ERA — the second-lowest ERA on the pitching staff — and two saves over 22 ⅓ innings.
He was also stingy against opposing hitters, allowing a batting average of just .163, the lowest mark on the staff, while racking up 38 strikeouts.
As a freshman in 2025, Swift showed promise as a two-way arm, starting eight of his 14 appearances and striking out 47 batters across 29.1 innings with a 3.99 ERA.
His departure adds another name to what is shaping up to be a significant offseason of change for the Virginia Tech pitching staff. Swift was among a group of players the Hokies had been hoping to retain heading into the offseason.
The staff expects to lose Brett Renfrow and Griffin Stieg to the MLB Draft on July 11-12, with Madden Clement and Preston Crowl also being possible draft losses.
With Swift now in the portal, programs looking for a proven, left-handed relief arm with closing experience and two full years of eligibility remaining will likely come calling quickly.
