Talented three-star WR Lamar Booker Jr is down to his top 3 schools with Virginia Tech making the cut for the Richmond standout.
Recruitment still 100% open! Beyond blessed to be in this position! @CougFB @CollinMcConaghy pic.twitter.com/JKq8kj2f6u

The Hokies were joined by Duke and Rutgers in his top 3. Penn State, Virginia, and Boston College were among his most notable offers to not make the cut in his recruitment.
He had this to say about why each of these 3 schools made the cut for him.
- Virginia Tech: "They were really the first school that built a really strong relationship with me."
- Duke: "The impact that coach (Mike) Elko has made on the program as well as their prodigious academics. Coach Zohn (Burden) is also an amazing coach."
- Rutgers: "The amount of love that their entire coaching staff shows my family is unbelievable."
Booker added that these are the three schools that he plans to take official visits to.
The Hokies have had a lot of success recruiting Richmond under Brent Pry having signed potentially the largest number of Richmond area players in their 2022 class. Booker could be a foundational piece for another large class out of the 804 this cycle with it being clear that he is a priority for the Hokies.
Duke has felt like the top challenger for a while with Mike Elko's strong first season helping create some traction along with WRs coach (and former VT assistant) Zohn Burden's recruiting ties along the I-64 corridor. Rutgers shouldn't be ruled out but is the underdog at this point compared to Virginia Tech and Duke.
The Hokies are right where they want to be in the top 3 for Lamar Booker Jr but have some more work to do to land the standout Richmond WR.
