Virginia Tech Makes The Top 5 For Four-Star LB Josiah Trotter

VT Fans 1

Virginia Tech has emerged as a top contender for the son of former Philadelphia Eagles LB Jeremiah Trotter with the Hokies making the top 5 for four-star LB Josiah Trotter.

The Hokies were joined by in-state Penn State, Clemson, South Carolina, and West Virginia in Trotter's top 5. Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M previously made Trotter's top 8 but failed to make this cut while his offer list also includes Miami, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Oregon, Maryland, Syracuse, Temple, and Marshall.

Trotter previously visited Virginia Tech in January which appeared to go quite well based on his tweets after the visit. Given that the Hokies made his top 5, it would appear that Virginia Tech is in a strong position to receive an official visit from him.

Trotter is an interesting case of a big name, out-of-state recruit who's gotten to see Brent Pry produce great defenses and linebackers in recent years at in-state Penn State. This is where Pry's PA ties from his time at Penn State could help open some doors here for the Hokies.

Trotter also appears likely to be a top MLB target for Tech this cycle with the Hokies focusing on in-state standouts like Tony Rojas and Kaveion Keys who profile more as outside linebackers.

There's no doubt that Tech will have plenty of competition with Penn State likely to be the toughest threat as the in-state school. This also sets up one of numerous recruiting battles this cycle and for years to come all across the Mid-Atlantic between good friends Brent Pry and James Franklin. While the pressure is on Pry more in VA to beat out Franklin and others for top in-state talent, going to PA to beat out Franklin and others like Clemson for a top guy like Trotter would be a big recruiting victory for Pry and the Hokies.

Clemson can never be ruled out in any battle where they make a top 5 while South Carolina has done well on the trail under Shane Beamer with West Virginia looking like the underdog among the 5 given the warming seat that Neal Brown is on.

Virginia Tech is right in the thick of it for four-star LB Josiah Trotter with the stage being set for one of numerous battles between Brent Pry and James Franklin plus some other competition.
