Virginia Tech extended a notable in-state offer recently to 2023 offensive tackle Hannes Hammer out of North Cross School in Roanoke.

Hammer had this to say about his reaction to receiving an offer from Virginia Tech during his phone conversation with OL coach Joe Rudolph.
"Very excited! A lot of people in my circle love Tech so that’s a big deal," Hammer said.
He also added this about his conversation with Rudolph was as a whole.
"We spoke about the visits I took and our connection. It was a great conversation, me and Coach (Joe Rudolph) really get along well," Hammer said.
The Hokies are the first Power 5 offer for Hammer and join an offer list that includes Appalachian State, Eastern Michigan, UMass, Richmond, William & Mary, Yale, Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, and Elon. He also told us that he's receiving interest from Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Baylor, UVA, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, and others so more Power 5 offers may be on the way.
Of course, even if more Power 5 offers come the way of Hammer, Tech should still have the inside track with the Hokies having an extremely good record of landing talent they offer within an hour of Blacksburg including in the Roanoke Valley. Of course, there will still be plenty of work do, but the Hokies have been putting in the work leading up to the offer.
This offer comes after Hammer has visited Tech twice this spring including for the VT Spring Game having this to say about how his visit went.
"It was great seeing the coaches again, and I felt like there is a excitement about the new era with (Brent) Pry," Hammer said.
So how does this offer impact his recruitment and where the Hokies stand in it?
"It impacts it in a big way! It’s my first Power 5 offer and obviously, that means a lot plus VT is a great program which I only got positive Impressions from," Hammer said.
