Three-Star WR Ty Perkins Discusses Virginia Tech Offer, Upcoming Visit

VT Fans 1

Three-star WR Ty Perkins is among the talented recruits who have received an offer from Virginia Tech recently out of Ironton HS in southern Ohio full of overlooked talent that the Cincinnati Bearcats kept home for their playoff run.

Now, the Hokies are embracing this area as a part of their footprint outside of VA and not going to overlook talented players like Perkins with the three-star WR having this to say about receiving an offer from Virginia Tech.

"I'm really excited about it, my first power 5 offer so it's a big offer for me. I watch them a lot on TV and the atmosphere looks crazy during the games. I'm very excited to get down to campus this spring and come to a game this fall," Perkins said.

Perkins received the offer during a phone conversation with OL coach Joe Rudolph who appears to be leading the Hokies' recruiting efforts in Ohio with Perkins adding this on how that conversation went as a whole.

"It was really exciting. He invited me down to visit during the spring. He spoke very highly of me. He said I would be a great fit there," Perkins said.

Perkins added that he knew the Hokies were interested and a teammate of his after Rudolph made a visit to Ironton HS earlier this winter with the two staying in contact "often" since.

So how does this offer impact his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in it?

"This offer is huge for me. Being my only Power 5 offer, VT is definitely up there for sure," Perkins said.

Perkins expanded on why the Hokies are "up there" for him in his recruitment.

"Well it’s the first Power 5 offer I have. It definitely means a lot to me because of that. I know they have a rich tradition and it’s a beautiful place. And I watch them on TV, and I’ve seen the videos of Enter Sandman, so I know the atmosphere is wild," Perkins said.

Tech's offer to Perkins shouldn't come as a surprise as he was a big play machine for Ironton both on offense and special teams with 29 receptions for 643 yards and 11 touchdowns plus 326 kick return yards and 1 kick return TD.

Though Tech is the first Power 5 offer, Perkins has lots of other major interest from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Boston College, Duke, and numerous others at the Group of 5 level.

Looking ahead, Perkins told us that he will be visiting Virginia Tech on March 26th and had this to say about what he's hoping to see while on his visit to Blacksburg.

"The huge stadium, really looking forward to that," Perkins said. "I want to see a little bit of it all. The football facilities like the weight room, locker room, position meeting rooms; all of that. I really look forward to seeing Lane Stadium. It looks amazing on TV and in pictures I’ve seen. And I can’t wait to meet coach (Brent) Pry and coach (Fontel) Mines face to face."

Virginia Tech is off to a strong start for three-star WR Ty Perkins with the Hokies set to host the talented Ohio WR next month.
