Virginia Tech "Pleased" With Their Quarterback Room Coming Out Of Spring Practice

Quarterback was one of the biggest groups that needed improvement upon James Franklin's arrival and sure enough, Franklin overhauled that room.

Just this offseason, Franklin brought in Ethan Grunkemeyer from Penn State after Grunkemeyer started the second half of the season for the Nittany Lions, Bryce Baker after a redshirt year at North Carolina, and four-star recruit Troy Huhn who was previously a Penn State commit. The QB room only has one QB remaining from last year's group in Kelden Ryan after a combination of graduation, transfer departures, and a position change to WR for AJ Brand.

While the room on paper looked like it would be in a better place, there are no guarantees in any sport.

Early signs are that Virginia Tech's quarterback room is in a better place at least from a passing perspective.

All four quarterbacks completed over 55% of their passes in the Spring Game with the four quarterbacks going a combined 42-66 (63.6%) for 428 yards, three touchdowns, and only one interception. The four QBs did get sacked a total of ten times though six of those were of early enrollee Troy Huhn who had freshman moments with his pocket reading.

While the Spring Game is simply one data point in a sample set of 15 practice data points, head coach James Franklin is pleased with what he's seen from his quarterbacks so far.
