Virginia Tech right-handed pitcher Ben Weber told Virginia Tech on SI’s Josh Poslusny on Tuesday that he plans to enter the transfer portal pending a medical hardship waiver.
Weber suffered an injury in March and missed the rest of the Hokies’ season. In 5 appearances, including two starts, the right-hander pitched 10 ⅔ innings to a 7.59 ERA.
The graduate transfer started his playing career at Air Force, where he went 7-7 with a 6.35 ERA across 38 appearances (20 starts), logging 122 â…“ innings while striking out 74 batters.
From Air Force, Weber transferred to Xavier, where he went 6-3 in 18 appearances (12 starts) with a 4.15 ERA, while striking out 44. He followed then-Xavier pitching coach Doug Willey to Virginia Tech for the 2026 season.
After transferring in, Weber was one of the more trusted arms on the Hokies' staff, as he made two midweek starts across JMU and Marshall and appeared in five of the Hokies’ first 12 games in total.
Weber's departure leaves a void in the Hokies' pitching staff, as his experience as both a starter and long reliever would have been valuable heading into next season.
