The Danville, VA area may not be the most fruitful recruiting area on paper, but Virginia Tech famously pulled the Edmunds brothers out of Dan River HS with Terrell and Tremaine Edmunds becoming first round picks and highly-successful NFL players with Trey Edmunds also reaching the NFL.
Now, Dan River has another talented player in ATH TyLyric Coleman with Virginia Tech looking at getting involved.
Coleman told us that he's been in contact with a few of Tech's coaches including head coach Brent Pry, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, and defensive assistant Shawn Quinn.
Coleman had this to say about his relationship with Tyler Bowen who previously visited Dan River HS just a few weeks ago.
"It’s good, he’s a really cool coach!" Coleman said.
He also had this say about his relationship with Brent Pry.
"He seem like pretty cool coach! Like a really good person on and off the field," Coleman said.
Tech is recruiting Coleman as a wide receiver with Coleman planning to camp at Virginia Tech next Sunday, June 12th. So how is Coleman feeling about his odds of earning an offer at the VT camp next weekend?
"I feel like if I perform well at camp, they’ll offer me," Coleman said.
This comes as Coleman has received a few offers already including ones from UVA, William & Mary, Elon, and Georgetown while Old Dominion and Harvard are also showing interest. This shouldn't come as a surprise as Coleman had over 700 receiving yards last season while also having 7 interceptions in addition to having great size for a WR or DB at 6'3''.
He had this to say about the strengths and weaknesses of his game.
"I have great ball skills, but my weakness is my experience on the defensive side of the ball," Coleman said.
Will TyLyric Coleman be the next Dan River HS standout at Virginia Tech following in the footsteps of the Edmunds brothers? The next week or so may give us a big answer to that question.
