Virginia Tech Showing Interest in Utah Transfer QB Peter Costelli

Virginia Tech's quarterback overhaul has been substantial to date with the Hokies signing Devin Farrell and then going to the transfer portal to add South Carolina's Jason Brown and Marshall's Grant Wells who are both expected to battle for the starting QB job. This comes as the Hokies ended the season with only 2 QBs in Connor Blumrick and Tahj Bullock as Braxton Burmeister and Knox Kadum entered the transfer portal with Burmeister going to San Diego State and Kadum to McNeese State.

Most thought that Tech's quarterback room overhaul was probably done with the transfer additions of Brown and Wells, but Tech may be looking at adding one more QB.

Virginia Tech is among those showing interest in Utah transfer QB Peter Costelli who has all four years of eligibility after redshirting this past season for the Utes. Arkansas, Northwestern, and Nevada are also showing interest in the former four-star recruit Costelli as he told us.

Costelli has specifically heard from offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and QBs coach Brad Glenn, a strong indication that the Hokies' interest is more than just a casual look. Costelli had this to say about his conversations with Tyler Bowen.

"They have been very good. It’s great talking to him," Costelli said.

He also added that his conversations with Brad Glenn "also have been going great" with Tech having a relationship-focused message for him.

"That they are looking forward to building the relationship with me," Costelli said on what Tech's message has been for him.

Peter Costelli doesn't have a specific timeline for making a decision saying that his timeline is "whenever the time is right" and that he is looking to find "the right fit." So what does the right fit look like for Costelli?

"I want to find a place where I have a chance to compete and get a great education. A place that feels like home," Costelli said.

Virginia Tech definitely fits that compete portion given that Tech is certain to have an open QB competition headlined by Jason Brown and Grant Wells. Additionally, the Hokies may fit the home part of it as when we asked Costelli if he had any VT or East Coast connections, the Utah transfer QB from California shared that he does indeed have some familial connections.

"Yes I actually have a lot of family on the East Coast so it would work out great," Costelli said.

Virginia Tech may not be done just yet with their quarterback overhaul as they are potentially looking at adding a third quarterback via the transfer portal in Utah transfer and 2021 four-star QB Peter Costelli.
