Virginia Tech hasn't sent out a lot of linebacker offers as they've gained interest from a few of their top-ranked linebackers including four-star LB/DE Traveon Freshwater. The Hokies aren't the only school showing a lot of interest in Freshwater who has a few schools standing out.
Freshwater told us that he has a current top 3 of Virginia Tech, NC State, and South Carolina. He also told us that Wake Forest is rising in his recruitment after a visit to Winston-Salem this past weekend. The four-star LB/DE told us that VT, NC State, South Carolina, and Wake Forest are the schools that are recruiting him the hardest.
When we asked why VT, NC State, and South Carolina are the three schools standing out for him, this is what Freshwater had to say. "When I went on campus they felt like home. I feel like I could fit in with their programs and do well in school at those places."
Looking ahead in his recruitment, Freshwater told us that he is hoping to visit NC State this weekend and also hopes to take a visit to Blacksburg sometime this spring.
Right now, NC State appears to be the slight favorite in his recruitment in part because of his relationship with NC State's primary recruiter for him, CBs coach George Barlow. However, VT's defense has impressed Freshwater and Bud Foster's history of great defenses should help the Hokies.
One thing to watch could be whether him and teammate/four-star ATH JR Walker seek to play at the same school. While Freshwater and Walker don't appear to be a package deal, whatever school one of them chooses first will at least have a measurable impact on the decision-making process of the other.
For now, Virginia Tech is right in the hunt for Traveon Freshwater, but they have some work to do to get one of the most talented recruits in eastern North Carolina.

Freshwater's rating vary a lot as Rivals and the 247 Sports Composite rate him as a four-star recruit while
247 Sports and
ESPN rate him as a three-star. Nationally, Rivals ranks Freshwater as the 136th best recruit in the country.
Freshwater's positional projection varies as well as 247 Sports ranks him as the 23rd best inside LB, the 247 Sports Composite ranks him as the eighth best ILB, and
Rivals ranks him as the seventh best weakside DE. In North Carolina, Freshwater is ranked as the 20th best recruit by 247 Sports, ninth best by the 247 Sports Composite, and third best by Rivals.
