After having to postpone the initially scheduled September 19th game between Virginia Tech and Virginia due to the community COVID outbreak in Blacksburg, the 2020 Commonwealth Cup has been rescheduled for December 12th.

This will be the final regular season game for each team as currently scheduled with the Hokies now finishing their regular season with back-to-back home games against Clemson and UVA after their lone bye the week of Thanksgiving. December 12th has been the rumored date since the postponement given the late of aligning open weeks for the Hokies and Cavaliers.
The scheduling of VT-UVA on December 12th also likely means that the ACC Championship will be on December 19th rather than the 12th though it is possible it could still be on 12th if both Tech and UVA are knocked out of the ACC title hunt early on which seems unlikely. Currently, the ACC Championship is still schduled for the 12th with the 19th as the backup.
Pending other scheduling rearrangements, this will be the first time that the Commonwealth Cup has been contested during the month of December. The previous latest dates that the Commonwealth Cup was contested was previously November 30th with Virginia Tech beat UVA 21-9 in 2002 and 16-6 in 2013 on that specific date.
The Hokies are undefeated this century in Blacksburg when facing Virginia and are 18-2 overall this century against the Cavaliers.
