Virginia Tech Men’s Basketball’s 2026-27 non-conference schedule continues to come together as Virginia Tech and West Virginia both announced that they’ve agreed to a three-game series starting this season.

Virginia Tech will travel to West Virginia this season on Saturday, December 5th before hosting the Mountaineers in 2027 and then facing off with WVU in a neutral site game in Charleston, WV in 2028. This fall will be the first time that the Black Diamond rivals have faced off since December 30, 2015 when then No. 19 West Virginia beat Virginia Tech 88-63 in Blacksburg.

West Virginia is now the third confirmed power conference opponent for the Hokies during the non-conference schedule along with Iowa who they’ll face in Sioux City, IA on November 10th, and Ole Miss who they’ll host as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge on December 1st. VT should also face 1-2 power conference opponents in the Charleston Classic right before Thanksgiving.

From what I’ve heard, I expect VT to also one more power conference opponent beyond what is currently scheduled.

Overall, VT is building one of its strongest non-conference schedules in a while with WVU becoming the latest marquee opponent.

Here’s a current rundown of VT’s 2026-27 non-conference schedule.

  • 11/3: Home vs Coppin State (Tuesday)
  • 11/10: Neutral (Sioux City, IA) vs Iowa (Tuesday)
  • November: Charleston Classic (two games)
  • 11/27: Home vs Old Dominion (Friday)
  • 12/1: Home vs Ole Miss (ACC/SEC Challenge) (Tuesday)
  • 12/5: Road at West Virginia (Saturday)
  • 12/10: Home vs Maryland Eastern Shore (Thursday)
  • 12/13: Home vs Radford (Sunday)
  • 12/21: Home vs VMI (Monday)
