Virginia Tech has played in bowl games all over America from the Washington D.C. and Charlotte metros to warm Florida to the Bayou to the desert and all the way to the West Coast. However, the Hokies will be heading to the Northeast for the first time for a bowl game this year and do so against a former ACC foe.

Virginia Tech will make their first appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl with the Hokies facing former ACC rival Maryland in the game. This comes after the Hokies and Terps faced off in men's basketball just this past week with Tech coming out on top of Maryland 62-58.
Tech and Maryland have been quite close over the years with the Hokies having a 15-16 record against the Terps. However, Virginia Tech was 4-1 against Maryland in their five ACC matchups though Maryland won the most recent showdown in Blacksburg in 2013.
Of course, one of the biggest perks of a bowl game are the extra practices that the Hokies will now get. While J.C. Price will be running the practices, his retention may mean he leans a little on Pry in terms of development focuses that will likely be the priority for most of the bowl practice till about a week or so before the game.
In terms of game prep, J.C. Price may be able to ask Brent Pry for all his insight on Marlyand especially as his Penn State defense held the Terps to only 14 points earlier this season.
Additionally, this game also presents a great opportunity for Tech to connect with the numerous alums they have in the NYC metro which could be quite valuable as they continue their Reach For Excellence campaign perks.
After a 5-6 season last year where the players understandably chose to end their season early due to all the COVID protocols they had to go through, Virginia Tech will be back in a bowl game with a chance to avoid their third losing season in the past four years.
