Virginia Tech Women’s Golf opened its 2026-27 season with a pair of victories, winning the Nittany Lion Invitational as a team while senior Valentine Delon finished atop the individual leaderboard.
The two-day tournament was played Monday and Tuesday at the Penn State Blue Course, a par-72, 6,423-yard course. The tournament featured 18 teams and 90 individual golfers. Each team played five golfers, with its four lowest scores in each round counting toward the team score.
Virginia Tech entered Tuesday’s final round in second place after shooting a 2-under 286 in the opening round and a 10-under 278 in the second. That put the Hokies at 12-under overall, just one stroke behind Maryland at 13-under. Harvard was one stroke behind Virginia Tech at 11-under, with James Madison close behind at 10-under.
The Hokies made up that deficit during Tuesday’s final 18 holes to take the team championship at 20-under by five shots over Maryland, and nine shots over host Penn State and Harvard.
Meanwhile, Delon entered the final round in an even better position individually.
The Virginia Tech senior opened the tournament with a 3-under 69 before shooting a 6-under 66 during Monday’s second round. That put her at 9-under through 36 holes and alone atop the individual leaderboard entering Tuesday.
Delon maintained that position during the final round to claim the individual championship, giving Virginia Tech both titles available at the tournament. This comes after Delon won the prestigious Women's British Amateur Championship and earned spots in multiple women's major championships.
The Nittany Lion Invitational was Virginia Tech’s first tournament of the 2026-27 season. The Hokies will next compete at the Schooner Fall Classic from Sept. 19-21 at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma.
