Flynn took the 125 starting job from Eddie Ventresca during this past season after Ventresca struggled early this season, largely due to injuries. Flynn would go on to be ranked in the top 15 for most of the season looking like a serious All-American threat before going 1-2 at NCAAs after finishing runner-up at the ACC Championships. He also won the US U-23 Freestyle Wrestling title in 2023.
Flynn has two years of eligibility remaining.
There’s no doubt that Flynn is a notable loss, but the Hokies still have Ventresca who was an All-American just last year. While Ventresca’s struggles this season were concerning, we’ve heard per source that he was dealing with some injuries that affected him and that he’s looking much sharper now that he’s healthier.
Meanwhile, Flynn immediately becomes one of the best available wrestling transfers and will certainly have suitors from anyone needing a quality 125 starter who could push for All-American honors.
