Tanelli arrived at Virginia Tech on April 22, 2024. Prior to joining Robie's staff, he served as Columbia University's head coach for eight years. While with the Hokies, he primarily worked with the lowerweights, guiding freshmen Aaron Seidel and Collin Gaj to All-American honors in Cleveland this past March, and Eddie Ventresca, Caleb Henson, and Conor McGonagle to NCAA podium finishes last season.
Tanelli's departure leaves an opening on staff for another lowerweights specialist, an area that Robie has traditionally been more hands-off. Current associate head coach Jared Frayer also helps with the lowerweights, while Robie and assistant coach Jared Haught work with the middle-to-heavyweights.
