According to bracketologist and college basketball writer Rocco Miller, Virginia Tech assistant JD Byers is one of the finalists for the Radford head coaching job after Shane Nichols left for the La Salle head coaching job.

In addition to Byers, Notre Dame assistant Kyle Getter and Radford assistant Shane Nichols, the brother of Darris Nichols, are the other two finalists. Both Byers and Shane Nichols have been on staff at Radford previously while Kyle Getter has lots of VA ties.
Byers has been on staff at Virginia Tech the past two seasons following the departure of Mike Jones to become an assistant at Maryland. He has extensive experience working in Virginia as an assistant including at VCU (2017-23), Radford (2011-14), and Randolph-Macon (2007-10). Byers has been an important recruiter and also has played a role in the work to improve Tech’s performance on the defensive end.
It remains to be seen whether Byers will actually land the job or not, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get it given his Radford ties and VA coaching pedigree. Mike Young also has a reputation for seeing assistants of his land head coaching jobs with Byers having the potential opportunity to join that list.
