Hokies Football: Virginia Tech Closes in On Top 25 After 54-17 Win Over East Carolina

The Virginia Tech Hokies made their first appearance on a top 25 ballot last week as they received one vote in the AP top 25. The Hokies made another statement victory this week with a 54-17 victory over East Carolina and unsurprisingly, more voters across the nation started to take greater notice of the Hokies.

Today, Virginia Tech made some big gains in the top 25 ahead of their off week.

The Hokies jumped from 1 votes and 43rd overall in the AP Poll last week to being ranked 30th with 38 votes this week. The Hokies also received their first votes of the season in the Coaches Poll with 20 votes, leading them to being ranked tied for 34th with UCLA.

The Hokies’ two blowout victories have caused them to raise some eyebrows and catch the attention of sportswriters across America. With the Hokies having their next game in two weeks at North Carolina, Virginia Tech seems to be a victory in Chapel Hill away from jumping into the top 25 for the first time since September of 2014 after their win at future national champions Ohio State.

Virginia Tech is off to a great start and now is on the rise nationally after another blowout victory to finish off the first month of their season.
