Godfrey was an important piece in the Tigers’ run to the Elite Eight this past season averaging 6.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game while shooting 59.4% from the field. He did not start for the Tigers this past season, but was their primary frontcourt backup as a sophomore behind the standout duo of PJ Hall and Ian Schieffelin.
He is also currently taking a visit to Oklahoma according to The Portal Report.
There’s no doubt that Godfrey would fill a clear need at the four, with Robbie Beran and Mekhi Long both being out of eligibility. Charleston F Ben Burnham has the versatility to play the four as well, but Godfrey would be a strong fit who has proven to be a quality ACC player while having plenty of potential to grow into a league standout.
His advanced metrics are also quite good as this past season, he had a player efficiency rating of 18.5, a true shooting percentage of 61.1%, and a box score plus/minus of 4.2 including a defensive box score plus/minus of 3.5 which is quite good.
There’s no doubt that Godfrey has the talent to be a high-impact starter next season in a major conference and would be a very strong addition for the Hokies. Of course, Tech is facing some tough competition for him with Oklahoma being a major player but the Hokies clearly are in the hunt with a chance to impress later this week.
