The Virginia Tech women's golf team made its debut less than three years ago as the newest Division I program in Blacksburg. Over those three years, the program has had their ups and downs but last night, the program achieved a major milestone.

The Virginia Tech women's golf team received their first bid to a NCAA regional in program history. The Hokies will be the 14th seed in the Austin Regional with 18 teams comprising that region. For the Hokies to advance to the NCAA Championships, they will have to finish in the top 6 in the team competition. If VT fails to do so, any Hokie that finishes in the top 3 among golfers on teams that don't qualify for the team final will make the individual championship.
The Hokies are led by junior Elizabeth Bose who became the first individual tournament champion in program history when she won the Hurricane Invitational earlier this year. Bose leads the team in scoring average, top 5 finishes (2), and total top 20 finishes (7). Three other Hokies also have at least 2 top 20 finishes including Emily Mahar, Jessica Spicer, and Amanda Hollandsworth who has a pair of top 10 finishes.
For VT, this is a significant achievement to earn a NCAA Regional bid in the program's third year of competition. In addition, the Hokies do not have a single senior on their roster and should be able to make a return trip to the NCAA Championships next season.
