Like Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech football program, Buzz Williams and the men’s basketball program are currently evaluating high school basketball players from across the country and sending out new offers.
A week into April, Terrence Shannon Jr only had one Division I offer from Austin Peay of the Ohio Valley Conference. Over the past month, Shannon has seen his recruitment take off on his way to earning several major offers including one from Virginia Tech.

Terrence Shannon told us that he was “surprised and very happy” with the offer, and that it impacted his recruitment “a little bit.” Shannon doesn’t have any schools standing out in his recruitment at the moment, and told us that DePaul and Loyola-Chicago are among the schools showing the most interest in him at the moment.
Shannon’s recruiting explosion came after he made the decision to prep next year, reclassifying to 2019 from 2018. While schools are recruiting him for both classes, Shannon plans on staying in the 2019 class.
Shannon does feel he would be a “nice fit” with the Hokies’ style of play after watching some clips of them in the past. He also said that there is “a slight appeal” to playing in the ACC, but that whether he’s in the ACC, Big East, SEC, MVC, or elsewhere; his performance will be determined by “whatever he makes out of it” and that no matter the conference, nothing will be handed to him.
Shannon told us that Louisville, Kansas State, Xavier, Illinois, and Iowa State are among the schools showing the most interest that haven’t offered him. Shannon also hasn’t made any decisions yet on schools he may visit over the summer.
Right now, Virginia Tech has made a strong first impression on Terrence Shannon. However, the Hokies will likely need to get him on campus for a visit if they are to gain serious traction with him.
