In addition to the Hokies, three SEC teams (Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss), two Big 10 teams (Maryland, Michigan), and West Virginia also made Hazel's top 7. The fact that the Hokies made the top 7 for Hazel isn't surprising whatsoever given the mutual interest both sides have shown since VT offered him.
The Hokies were previously mentioned among four standing out to Hazel in a story on
Rivals along with Maryland, Alabama, and Michigan.
Currently, Virginia Tech and Maryland are considered to be the favorites for Hazel while Alabama remains lurking as a possible contender for him. In addition, Tennessee appears to be a possible sleeper after offering him in late April and quickly gaining enough traction to make his top 7.
Hazel's decision timetable is unknown but if his recruitment goes into the fall, the Hokies and Terps appear likely to receive official visits given his interest in those two schools. However, Hazel's previous comments to
Rivals suggest that a summer decision is possible, making it important for VT to get him to Blacksburg this summer.
Isaiah Hazel is a priority for Virginia Tech in their 2019 class and unsurprisingly, the Hokies have made his top 7. However, VT has a battle ahead with Maryland and others pushing hard for the talented four-star WR.
