Three-Star PF Anthony Higgs Will Take an Official Visit to Virginia Tech

VT Students Miami 1
Last month, three-star power forward Anthony Higgs revealed his top 3 which included Virginia Tech, Buffalo, and South Florida. Before then, Higgs was a Ole Miss commit who was released from his National Letter of Intent after the Rebels made a coaching change. Now, Higgs has his sights set on taking an official visit to Virginia Tech within the next two weeks followed by his decision. Anthony Higgs told us that he will be taking an official visit to Virginia Tech from June 13-14th, and that he will announce his commitment on June 15th. Higgs added that his official visit to Virginia Tech is the only visit he currently has scheduled. The Baltimore power forward is one of the top unsigned recruits in the 2018 class. Higgs told us that he hasn't visited Virginia Tech previously, but that he is hoping to get a "home" feeling when he visits Blacksburg. "I lived in Virginia for so long and developed such memories there. I am hoping I am brought into an efficient and thorough program where I'm comfortable and treated like family as all the players are." The fact that Higgs has a lot of roots in Virginia may have helped Virginia Tech gain a lot of traction in his recruitment since his decommitment from Ole Miss. Virginia Tech's system looks for athletic big men like Higgs who feels he can fit in quite well with the Hokies and be a difference maker. "I feel as though I will be the difference maker. The team and program have an incredibly rich history but hasn't gotten the recognition and respect it deserves recently. I look to make it so that the country can't help but open its eyes." With the Hokies having an open scholarship and only three true big men, adding a young guy like Higgs would give VT some more depth to go with Kerry Blackshear, PJ Horne, and Khadim Sy in the post. Higgs' size and athleticism gives him the versatility to play the four or be used as a five in smaller lineups for VT. With his visit to Blacksburg coming right before he makes his collegiate commitment, Virginia Tech has a great opportunity to make a big impact on Higgs' recruitment. While Buffalo and South Florida may not be the toughest competition on paper, both schools shouldn't be ruled out especially with the momentum Buffalo has after upsetting Arizona in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Virginia Tech has a big official visit coming up from Anthony Higgs as the Hokies look to fill their open scholarship spot with one of the top unsigned 2018 recruits.
