2020 Three-Star WR Jalin Hyatt Commits to Virginia Tech

Jalin Hyatt Jan 2019
After gaining a commitment from LB Tyreem Powell yesterday, Virginia Tech gained their second 2020 commitment in two days via top target and three-star WR Jalin Hyatt. https://twitter.com/jalinhyatt/status/1091828936944832514?s=19 Hyatt is Virginia Tech's third overall 2020 commit and first at the wide receiver position in the 2020 class. Hyatt's commitment comes two weeks after he visited for Virginia Tech's first Junior Day, a visit he described as "great" enjoying him and his family's time not only with the coaches, but also with VT QBs Ryan Willis and Quincy Patterson. His early February decision may be a surprise to some, but was something that he started to hint may be coming back when we talked to Hyatt in December. From there, Hyatt didn't need much more time with visits only to Blacksburg and Tennessee following that. For the Hokies, this is a major pickup as Hyatt was not only a top target, but also is an underrated recruit who seems poised to take off this spring as his tape is evaluated. His underrated status was apparent on the field as Hyatt had 71 receptions for 1,316 yards and 21 touchdowns for South Carolina power Dutch Fork HS. The fact that the Hokies were also able to get Hyatt on board despite WRs coach Holmon Wiggins leaving for Alabama (with Jafar Williams replacing him) not only shows a confidence in Williams, but also shows that Hyatt's commitment goes well beyond his position coach. James Shibest was the primary recruiter for Hyatt with the two having a strong relationship that became "even better" after his recent Junior Day visit. After adding a top linebacker target yesterday, the Hokies have built on their recruiting momentum adding top WR target Jalin Hyatt today to a 2020 class that has a strong, early foundation.

Jalin Hyatt in the Recruiting Rankings

Hyatt is ranked as the 85th best wide receiver by 247 Sports, 86th best WR by Rivals, and 105th best WR by the 247 Sports Composite. In the state of South Carolina, Hyatt is ranked seventh best by Rivals, eighth best by 247 Sports, and ninth best by the 247 Sports Composite.
